Get your research on

6 September, 2006

I attended a very interesting library forum yesterday on how the library can support researchers in the university. It was also an opportunity to discuss the upcoming RQF and how we can provide the kind of support and information that academics might need to prepare for the exercise.

One of the points discussed was also how librarians should be doing more research and publishing the results. The library would receive DEST funding for any publications written by Library staff. Also, there's been a lot written about the lack of research in many areas of library practice. So it was interesting to check my email this morning to see a message from Mark Hindwell from Emerald, publishers of several library science journals "Journal of Documentation" and "Library Review".

They are running a "Meet the Editor" session on Thursday afternoon (21st September) of the ALIA 06 conference. There will be an opportunity to meet with two members of the Emerald editorial team at the booth during the afternoon break. They're wanting to talk to librarians with ideas for articles or would like to find out more about the scholarly publishing process. At the booth will be Dr. David Raitt who is the editor of The Electronic Library and Alan Poulter the Associate Editor for Library Review.

If anyone's interested in me passing along information from the session, let me know.

Comments

If you're not too hung over to get to this session, then say hello to Alan Poulter for me. You can ask him whether he's brought his sleeping bag, or has he broken the habit and is based in a hotel room? Paul Eden says hi and that if the Polluter is coming to Sydney then to get in touch.
(Sarah - no need to post this to the blog!!)
