Evaluation of relevant material on the Internet

The material on the internet relating to the Sensation exhibition generally present the same image of the exhibition as a lot of hype over artworks that are really not that controversial, and rarely discuss the exhibitions content, but rather which works got the most publicity due to public outrage.

The websites with the intention of promoting these artists tend to focus on the artists personalities as opposed to the works they create, perhaps confusing us (the consumer) and showing us an image of a “mad genius”. One science based website states “No wonder creativity has for so long been "explained" as the expression of an irrational, intuitive psychic "underground" teaming with forces (perhaps divine) that are unknown and unknowable (at least to the "sane," rational mind).”

The websites that focus on the human mind and psychology explore the notion that people who are recognized for their creative genius often depict moments of inspiration as an “electrifying convergence of rational and irrational thought. If creativity is to be found between the rational and the irrational; between the known and the unknown; between the conventional and the innovative, then the creative mind continually runs the risk of going too far."

What is missing on the Internet is the link between the artists' eccentricity and “irrational genius mind” and its affect on the market. It would be interesting to see a market report for an artist after a public incident (such as Tracey Emin's emotional break down on UK television) and whether the artists personality increased sales, popularity or not.
