This is the official site of the Louvre, which contains relevant information concerning museum policies. The site has a special chapter about the museum itself, containing subjects like ‘Behind the Scenes’, ‘Annual Reviews’ (unfortunately all in French) and ‘Audience Development’. The topic called ‘Message from the Director’ is of special interest to me, because here the director, Mr. Henri Loyrette, explains the mission and goals of the Louvre. In general, the director puts great effort on the cultural access of the museum. He believes that the roles of the Louvre as national and international center are equally important. Especially this text can provide useful information, because it can be linked to certain issues such as ethical questions and their view on cultural heritage. Notable, one thing is missing: nowhere on the website are the developments concerning the Louvre Abu Dhabi mentioned. It looks like the Louvre does not want to make any implicit information public (yet).
Another website that concerns my interest is of the opponents of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, called ‘La Tribune de l’Art’. This website, founded by art historian and critic Didier Rykner, contains of topics and debates related to French art and heritage. A few articles are posted concerning the Louvre Abu Dhabi and a petition to protest against the new museum can be signed. The articles can be of use for my research because they contain information about ethical questions and the role of art and the museum as such.
