From Alex, probably inspired by 'Australian' cuisine:
Here is the hypothetical situation: It's the end of the world. You are barricaded in your lab. You have unlimited access to water. What lab supplies can you eat? What order should you consume them in?
DMEM comes out a clear winner. Yum.

Whoa. I have been there. I have thought about this too. I must say that yummy as it always seemed, I never quite plucked up the courage to taste DMEM (despite its rare eagle ingredients).
However, I did once get into a pissing contest with an MSc student to taste the pure powdered form or every component of the citric acid cycle. It's sort of like Munro bagging for bored, lab-bound idiots. Despite the seeming idiocy of working our way through various green-capped Analar tubs, we did learn something. We learned where the cool sensation of mint sweets comes from. Mmmmmm, pyruvic acid.

I'd go for the fructose, sucrose and maybe a touch of the PBS ;) (I figured the autoclaved water might be cheating?!)and of course the agar could probably be food (and source of protein?)
When I wanted to end my suffering there are so much stuff you could always try with a 'skull' on... scary, I have more dangerous stuff than eatable (or maybe that is the way it is suppose to be in a lab?!)
