Up until this morning I was having a pretty crap week.

But just after midnight an email arrived in my inbox, and sat there until I was able to peer at, bleary-eyed, before breakfast. And it said,

As you may have noticed, Nature Network also features blogs by scientists. We have read your blog "Life of a Lab Rat" with interest and would really like to have you blogging on Nature Network. Your writings are really enjoyable to read and would resonate quite strongly with Nature Network users, a lot of whom are (mad) research scientists like yourself.

Which was quite the fillip to my ego. Getting more into writing is an idea I've been toying with for some time, and this is the veritably braying gift horse. A great use of my copious (hah!) free time.

I have not replied formally yet, but I think I'd be an idiot to refuse (Nature!). Fear not gentle reader, for I shall not desert you; I can maintain specific wibblings in a pseudonymous manner here, and be a little more general (under my real name. Urk!) there, I think.

And in other news, my Western worked, and the knockouts worked, and the expression trial worked, so the crap has been worth it. I'll post pictures next week, as I'm out of town from this afternoon.

Wow - Nature is impressive. Congratulations!

So all we need to do now is watch for the next new blogger to start on the Nature Network, and your secret identity is *revealed*, bwahaha!

(this is only slightly dampened by the minor fact that I already know it. But it's still a hole in your security. ;} )

Congrats! I will try and not be too obvious but let's just say - my eyes are a little more green at the moment ;)

Ah well, not really since I am happy and can understand the boost of ego than can happen from an email like that.

Anyhow, I do think you might need to reconsider the anonymity since I think they usually present people with "formerly found in the blog here" but maybe they can make an exception or something?!

Congratz BK!

Woo! Most excellent.

And when you're really really famous, I can say "I used to email that bloke every couple of months. No, I've never met him, but that's not the point, is it?"
