Words of Love

16 May, 2007

The student body here, 'Amoeba', has organized a trade fair for today. Several companies set up stall in the common room and provide sandwiches and cakes, which is a good incentive to go and see what they have, and to put false names on their 'chance to win a bottle of wine' forms (which are a barely concealed grab for junk mail fodder).

Amoeba themselves are running a competition. You have to guess the 'secret' (amusingly, they spelled it 'secert'. Twice.) word from the seven letters on the trade stands. The letters are S, C, I, E, N, C and E.

Gosh guys, that was original.

Appropriately my entrance raffle ticket thing number is 'Black 13'. Cool. But what made me choke on my coffee was the 'thanks' speech, in which Amoeba was described as the 'social lubricant' of the department.

I'm afraid I had to leave, before I was asked to.

Hey, SCIENCE may be an easy word to you (and me) but there were totally people who couldn't get it, so I think anything harder would have defeated the purpose. Also, I slaved for hours over those sandwiches so give credit where its due- Amoeba provided the food!

If I ever see a salad sandwich again, kill me please.

Heh heh. I liked the mustard!

Did anyone overcorrect and guess SCEINCE? (That's not a mistake anyone would make without that bloody stupid i-before-e rule.)

Come down from your high horse. I guess it's easy making comments without doing anything to contribute. Just because you create a faux post-doc club that has failed there's no need to demean other people's efforts.
