But when you get missives from the University (or its agents) saying things like

you might be forgiven for throwing up your hands and in the towel.
Here's a clue. Colons get impacted, as do wisdom teeth.

BK: While I agree with you, I think you'll make yourself ill if you keep railing against the product(s) of today's schooling. Some years ago I accepted that I was fighting a losing battle when I realised that my PhD students who didn't have English as their mother tongue often wrote better than their native English counterparts. And this from someone who once (semi-jokingly) threatened violence to anyone putting Grocer’s Apostrophes in drafts of their manuscripts! Sorry to say but my Inner Editor croaked some time ago.
