Enforced holiday

9 October, 2008

It's very nice that the VC has given us four concessional days leave over Christmas:

I have received strong support for my proposal to closedown the University for two weeks over the 2008-9 Christmas/New Year period. Of the 789 responses received from staff, 97.6% were in favour of the proposal. THE NTEU and CPSU have also indicated their support.

CHRISTMAS CLOSE DOWN FAQ’s

Is it true the University is giving us extra days leave?

Yes, you will receive four concessional holiday days during the Christmas
period this year.

However,

Close of business Friday 19 December reopening Monday 5 January

Monday 22 December - Required annual leave
Tuesday 23 December - Required annual leave

and

Do I have to put in a leave request form?

No, the annual leave will be deducted automatically from your leave balance.

which means that even if I have/want to go into work on either of those two days I have to take annual leave. In this job, that can actually be quite a pain. I hadn't planned to go away for Christmas, but now I might have to.

What kind of over-administered joint is this? I am totally confused by this concept of having to take leave in order to go to work (or something). Me, I show up when I wants to, and believe me, the place *I* work would give almost anywhere a run for the administrative red-tape prize.

Pfft...

I just took two weeks off...only I forgot to put in for leave...oh well.
