We're finding CE 6.1 to be pretty picky about which browsers it will cooperate with, and that many browsers are a bit crashy with it. Unfortunately, this goes for a number of browsers that are validated for use with CE 6.1 according to the WebCT / Blackboard themselves.

Unfortunately, at the moment we have both Firefox 2 and IE 7 being pushed very hard, neither of which are officially validated for use with CE 6.1 (though I should be able to give a report-back on my experience of Ff2 soon).

With the pushing of these new browsers, both Mozilla.org and MS have hidden their older browsers deep in their sites and made them somewhat hard to get to. On request of Mary-Helen, I've dug up the URLs of a few pages where you can grab earlier browser versions.

For comparison: our team are having most luck with:
* Firefox 1.5.07 or Safari 1.3.2 for OSX 10.3.9, for those on Mac
* IE 6 for Win XP SP2, for those on Windows

Firefox:

Thanks for this Bec - a very handy resource. This willl save me a lot of time when I'm updating the student orientation materials on the FHS Get Real site later this year. In fact, for just about anyone dealing with student orientation issues (and staff orientation too) it will be a vital reference to have.

Just one question:

The list of Windows browsers that we are "having most luck with" includes IE6 only and no Firefox. Does this mean that problems have been encountered with Firefox 1.5 or Firefox 1? If so, what sort? Firefox 1.5 is currently my browser of choice and if problems have come up would like to know.

Tim

On the Mac, I started with Firefox 1.0.8. WebCT says it supports 1.0.X, but not 1.5 or above. I worked my way backwards through all the 1.0s to Firefox 1.0, and that was the first one that passed the WebCT browser check. In other words. despite what it says on the WebCT site, the latest Firefox that passed the browser check on the login page was Firefox 1.0. In addition, as CE6 seems to crash my Mac on just about any browser, even Safari, when doing admin functions, I think we may be in for some problems.

How have you found it for admin functions, Bec?
