Welcome to all who are interested in teaching physics. This blog has been established as a response to the many questions that physics teachers have about the NSW year 11 and 12 syllabuses. It is a forum where help can be obtained or the wisdom of your experience can be given. It is hoped that this help can also take the form of documents and other material that can be shared between teachers in support of their teaching.

To start, your comments are invited on, say, what you would like to see on this website, or perhaps you had a question or advice about some part of the year 11 and 12 syllabuses.

There is a slowly growing number of categories on the right hand panel of this page on which you can comment. If you don't find a category that is relevant to your comment then you can comment here. If the category was created after you posted here, then I'll copy your comment into that category.

If you have some material you want to share with teachers, I can place it on this website for it to be downloaded. First get in touch with me on the "Contact the author" link on the right hand side of this page and I'll be able to put it up for you.

I hope to hear from you.

Joe Khachan

I'm chasing an old book that has English translations of the original papers of scientists like Hertz. Someone showed me this once and these are useful to go back to and find out what he actually did. Although I think there was still some ambiguity once I read the paper.

Cheers,
Jeff

Definitions

10 April, 2009

I have seen many science teachers argue furiously over accuracy, validity, reliability and precision. Does anyone have some definitions that are universally accepted? I thought this might be a good topic for discussion.

Jeff

Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone has found a good example of a scientific journal article that was badly reported in the media? I'd like to find a journal article and text from the media where the findings of the article are incorrectly conveyed. This is one of the outcomes of the HSC course and I have not found any excellent examples that fall within a core topic. I found one in astrophysics but it wasn't the best example.

Cheers,
Jeff

Formula sheets

8 May, 2009

I have a question about the formulae sheets they use in the HSC. Do universities provide formulae sheets in physics exams? (I don't mean data sheets, I just want to know if our kids should be memorising equations even if it's not needed at school.)

The shape of the emf as a bar magnet passes through a solenoid.

Have your say about the national physics syllabus.
