An excellent source of resources for astrophysics is the ATNF website put together by Rob Hollow at http://outreach.atnf.csiro.au/education/senior/astrophysics/

Hi all,
Me and my year 10 kids are trying to set up an obervation night in Cabramatta during moon festival on the 27 of September for the general public. In my school's local area, parents and students have this mad obession about getting into medical degrees and worship medicince as the only noteworthy science. A couple years back, I had a kid who told me he want to be an astronomer in a parents teacher night, only to be scolded by his parents that it is a “foolish” and “obscure” profession. While I am nowhere close to be a hardcore amateur astronomer myself, I really want to help the community to appreciate science a little more. So if anyone out there reading this message and want to do some justice for Astronomy, I would really appreciate anybody who (or get the whole school involved!)can generous lend us a few telescopes for the public viewing night (I tried a number of amateur astronomy groups so far since March, and I still have no luck) We will try our best to entertain you with our school's production of the trial of Galileo debate or our student Astronomy expoon 27/9 afternoon.

Hi David,
I share your frustration about the focus on medicine at the expense on other professions. Send me an email at jeff at jeffstanger.net and I think I can help you find someone for your open night. I might be able to bring my telescopes too.
Cheers,
Jeff
