Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone has found a good example of a scientific journal article that was badly reported in the media? I'd like to find a journal article and text from the media where the findings of the article are incorrectly conveyed. This is one of the outcomes of the HSC course and I have not found any excellent examples that fall within a core topic. I found one in astrophysics but it wasn't the best example.

Cheers,
Jeff

This is not physics, but it is a nice example of misuse of statistics that the media (and politicians) do al the time. See the second half of ABC MediaWatch episode 9 2009 (available for download). It nicely illustrates the difference between mean and median and the abuse that the media can make of a study - in this case of on-line gambling.
