In the space syllabus there is a dot point about evidence supporting special relativity. There is good information about length and time dilation, but most of the texts simply mention particle accelerators without going into detail. I managed to get hold of a paper by Cushing called "Electromagnetic mass, relativity and the Kaufmann experiments" from Google scholar that discusses the q/m ratio, but was wondering if there is anywhere I can go to get some info on particle accelerators and mass dilation.
Thanks

Anthony,
there is a paper entitled: "The impact of Einstein’s theory of special relativity on particle accelerators"
The authors are:Tomas Plettner, Robert L Byer and Robert H Siemann
From a scientific journal called:
Journal of Physics B: Atomic, Molecular and Optical Physics.
Published in 2005. With a volume number of 38, and page numbers of S741 to S752.
The website for this journal is:
http://www.iop.org/EJ/journal/JPhysB
The trouble is that they usually charge a small fee for downloading their articles. However, our University subscribes to this journal and so it is possible to obtain it through our University. Just contact me directly for this. I can't make it publicly available because of copyright issues.
The following is the abstract from the paper to give you an idea of what is in it:
We describe the consequences of the theory of special relativity on particle accelerators and present a historical overview of their evolution and contributions to science and the present limitations of existing accelerator
technology. We report recent results of our experiment where we succeeded in accelerating relativistic electrons with visible light in vacuum. The experimental demonstration is the first of its kind and is the proof of
principle for future linear laser-driven particle acceleration schemes in vacuum that may lead to the realization of electron–positron colliders beyond the TeV scale

I have a thought experiment that I would like some feedback on. Can I send it as an attachment.

Unfortunately, it's not possible for commenters to upload a file. If you had the document on a website then you can put a link to that website in your blog.
