ascilite just announced its 2012 Webinar series program. This year it has a range of presentations on various research approaches in eLearning. Peter Goodyear and I will be co-presenting the last Webinar "ICT-enhanced social and educational research methods", Thursday, 11 October 2012, 1pm NSW time.
ICT-enhanced social and educational research methods
Date: Thursday, 11 October 2012
Times: VIC 1pm | NSW 1pm | QLD 1pm | SA 12:30pm | WA 11am | TAS 1pm | NZ 3pm | HK 11am
In this webinar we will take a broader perspective and discuss some emerging links between research in education and ICT-enhanced research, that we broadly call 'Educational eResearch'. We will show that eResearch is not a single method, but rather a broad family of research techniques and approaches. We will specifically focus on four aspects of eResearch that have significant potential to enhance theoretical impact and practical relevance of educational research: 1) increasing timescales, modalities and "thickness" of educational data, 2) increasing "theoretical intelligence" of data-driven computational methods, 3) opportunities for research collaboration and 4) opportunities to integrate learning and teaching data with educational designs. The presentation will illustrate some of these arguments by examples of from the domains of educational data mining, learning analytics, collaborative video analysis and research dissemination. At the end, we will discuss some challenges for future progress in ICT-enhanced research methods.
