Now that you know how to change preferences, the hardest thing is deciding if you should change your preferences or not, particularly if you just missed out on last years UAI cut-off. Let’s talk about that for a little bit, there a few things that you might like to know
The first few weeks of Uni are going to be great, but they’re a tad scary too. Here are some tips that I think will help you settle in to the grand old place
Transferring is an option that lots of people are playing round with at this time of year, especially if you just missed out on the cut off and want to transfer some time down the track. So lets fast forward a year and explore how it all rocks and rolls.
Sydney Uni has a fairly specific enrolment procedure, so it’s good to have some information about what you have to do if your away!
The best things in life are sometimes rather expensive, I mean, 1965 Ford Mustangs and holidays in the Greek Islands don’t pay for themselves. So how do you do lead this lifestyle as a student??? The good old part time job….
Well my Christmas carol CDs are out, I've placed my order with Santa (we really needed to talk this year) and I've eaten enough candy canes to pay for my dentist's holiday again. Yep, it must be Christmas. To everyone who has visited the blog, I wish you a very Merry Christmas. You should definitely be celebrating the end of what has certainly been an awesome but tough year for you all. Congrats and bring on that Wham! Christmas song, Cath!
Love Lauren
I am unashamedly in love with this place. I can often be seen wearing my fashionable pink Sydney Uni hoodie on a cold day, or even a bloody hot one. I attempt to convince people to enrol - even my Mum, who has a full-time job and no desire to go back to uni. A lot of you are probably wondering which uni to go to - it's a tough choice, I know. So I'm going to make it a little easier, by letting you in on the best things about Sydney Uni.
This is Cath, Tim, Lauren and Brendon on the air....well, in cyberspace anyway. Live and here to stay!!! But this is no one-way street: as we're posting our blogs, we'd love to hear from you guys. Here is a quick guide on how to use our site (don't worry, you can't break it!)
One of the questions I get asked all the time is, "How many hours do uni students actually spend at uni?"
Contrary to popular belief, students do regularly appear on campus! Yep, it's true. Just how often you will appear on campus depends on your degree. To help you out, I asked some of my friends to tell me how many hours a week they spend here!
…It’s the end of the world as we know it…Michael Stipe is one of my favourite musicians. But sometimes his lyrics are as offbeat as his hair is thick and full. It’s not the end of the world! Stop this nonsense right now – you have alternatives, you really do.
Life in the big smoke has its ups and downs, but you will get used to it in no time!
If uni and high school were suburbs of Sydney, right now they’d be Cronulla and Maroubra. They’ve got a bit in common, but once you look closely, they’re worlds apart….
Starting uni is like starting high school all over again.
Except your high school probably didn’t have its own postcode, and it probably didn’t have over 30 000 students.
So starting uni is a tad overwhelming: big deal, you knew that, right? Like a bad haircut, it’ll take a week to settle down, but once you get used to it…no worries.
So the general consensus is that uni students are…thrifty. This is a euphemistic way of saying that we will go out of our way to save every penny we can. It’s in our blood, we can’t help it. As you will soon be bona fide uni students, read on for my tips on how to save your hard-earned dosh here at Sydney…
For those of you considering studying Arts at Sydney next year (or Liberal Studies, or Media and Communications, or Education, or anything else Artsy) I recommend signing up to the Arts Network Transitioning and Mentoring
Program.
The Universe waits with baited breath to see how our young heroes and heroines fare in the battle with the mythical UAI.
Mirror, mirror, on the wall….should I start uni now, after all? (Sorry, I get my poetic tips from Bec Cartwright, guys.) Deferring your degree might be on your mind – if so, read on…
Welcome to the sound track of your life, track 18, the UAI. Music is a great way to remember events and celebrate, and that’s what this time should be, a celebration! So here are some ace songs that will make you bust a move to the groove of the UAI!
Live bands on campus keep you rockin' during your holidays!
Manning Bar on the University's main campus has some great acts. Last
tuesday saw punk ska band Less than Jake take the main stage and they rocked
the packed out venue. One of the best reasons to head along to the Union owned
bar is the subsidised prices for Union members! Thank you USU!
Next year is going to be a huge year for live acts at Syney Uni so get excited!
Some of the most exciting local bands got their first gigs in Sydney uni so the
band competitions are a must see.
Information Day is a good chance to come down and talk with Faculty Representatives and Students about what courses you want to study. By talking to the experts, we can help you find the course that you will love.
I must start this entry saying that I am currently listening to the 12th Man, so if there are really poor references (such as the title), I am sorry. Well, you have the UAI, your marks, and probably about 400 questions about courses. The best place to get answers for these questions is not from your second cousin twice removed from Western Australia, but the actual people who know. Info Day gives you the chance to sit down with Academics, Uni Reps and Students to discuss what you want to do, and to get the correct answers to your questions.
All in all, it had been a pretty decent party. Started off slowly, until word spread via the technological blessing and curse that is SMS.
Lots of people have said to me school days are the best days of your life, I tend to think of these people as the ones who didn’t go to Uni. Getting the most out of it is up to you, but follow this little recipe, and you’ll be cooking with fire!
Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Idiot’s Guide to Sydney Uni.
Augghh!!! I missed the Sass and Bide sale – how can I front up to my first lecture in this state? Relax fellas, uni doesn’t have to be so daunting!
Next year is going to be a new and exciting experience. For those of you who like to be prepared to take the bull by the horns, here are a few ideas to help you get ready.
Finding the right degree is certainly an important decision. Here’s a few things to keep in mind.
The exams are over and world is your toy store. You want make this the best summer ever, but a huge block of leisure time like that can be a little daunting…
Don’t let marks and uni enrolment sour the longest holiday you will have in your life.
Hey Charger, school finished in November, Uni Starts in March! What a holiday! While all those around you may start to gag at the amount of time your having off, there is that horrible little nagging thought in the back of your mind asking, ‘but what next?’ It can be really quite overpowering and stressful, but it really doesn’t have to be.
Picking the right degree for you is hard but by no means impossible. Just stay calm and with a few helpful hints you should be on the way to a successful University career!
Uni will sneak up on you before you know it, so it is best to get a head start on the preparations sooner rather then later!
How do you go about choosing the right degree? The right uni? How do you
even know if you should go to uni at all?
Changing preferences isn’t the hardest thing in the world, but a few handy tips never hurt anyone!
September seems so long ago, doesn’t it? It seems like an eternity for me, and I haven’t done the change up from school, to the HSC, to Schoolies, to the HSC results! So its not surprising that a few of you you might be thinking of changing your preferences, especially if you’ve just got your HSC results or if you are after an offer in the different offer rounds, so its good to know a bit more about the process.
