Welcome to the sound track of your life, track 18, the UAI. Music is a great way to remember events and celebrate, and that’s what this time should be, a celebration! So here are some ace songs that will make you bust a move to the groove of the UAI!
Well look firstly sorry, I won’t write down 1001 one songs to get your UAI to, mainly because we would both tire of the activity some where in the two hundreds. Secondly, CONGRATULATION ON YOUR MARKS. I’m sure they’re well tops, well done on the effort! Yeah, go you good thing, I’m proud of you.
This time is very much about celebration. You’ve reached a pretty big milestone, and I think that should be celebrated no matter how you feel about the marks. And what good celebration would be complete without some memorable tunes??? I was watching Foxtel the other day and Chit Chat (presenter on Max, developed fame playing in Machine Gun Fellatio) was saying how a song or an album could express every important moment in his life. I would have to say that I’m really quite similar, so I thought Id share the songs that rocked my socks when I got my UAI. That was way back when big hair was cool, when safe was sex and cars were dangerous, when life was simple… oh yeah, way back in 2002.
Well, firstly, I must say that ‘Little Bitty Pretty One’ by Thurston Harris, Leo Sayer’s ‘You make me feel like Dancing’ and The Avalanche’s ‘Since I left You’ were on pretty high rotation during the HSC and post HSC wash up, just because they make you want to dance and feel good! I also did a fair bit of bopping to The Bees’ ‘A Minha Menina’ and the Queens of the Stone Age, ‘No one Knows.’ Wow, did I rock. Other songs that were playing when I turned on the wireless (that a radio for all you young people) were ‘By the way’, ‘Chop Suey’, ‘Hella Good’ and ‘Like I love You.’ So hopefully you can find some songs that will let you shake the groove thing while you get the UAI, it will be quite fun if you do!
Whilst dancing is a great way to celebrate, its also a good idea to have some songs that let you chill out, and give you a bit of power back. Back in the day I listened to Blind Melon’s ‘No Rain’, Ben Kweller’s ‘Wasted and Ready’, and Jeff Buckley’s ‘Grace’ to rewind a little, to sit back and ponder and the like. Some post 2002 songs that I are now used in a similar vein are Bob Evans’ ‘Friday Come Five’ (he is the lead singer of Jebediah), Kings of Leon’s ‘Bucket’ and Kayne West’s ‘Touch the Sky’. It’s great to have a way to release tension and chill, and music has always done that for me, so why not give that a go!
I think it would probably be a good idea to get a bit of a mega mix together for the occasion, just to really turn it into a tops celebration! Doesn’t that sound like fun, if you do make a tape or a CD, send me a copy!!!
Yeah, congratulations again (well done, top effort), and let the good times roll!
See you round like a rissole,
Brendon (Or B-Diddy 3000 to keep it rocking!)

Righto, I want anyone who reads this to put down at least one song that they bopped to during the HSC/UAI cycle. Thats from term 4 last year to now, so you must have liked a song during that time, so put it down! Do it, it will be fun! Cheers

Oh Brendo, you are so right (this may have been the first time I've said this!!!!) There is a song for every moment in your life, and my HSC song was the Dixie Chicks 'Sin Wagon.' I am so on your wavelength with this one (though I doubt ANYONE is on my wavelength with the Chicks)

It was the Whitlams for me. I'd finally gotten over the Backstreet Boys, bought "Torch the moon" and never looked back!

First of all Lauren, Dixie Chicks? You are so banned.
Nah, actually, I distinctly remember a car tape of mine in year 12 which had WHAM's "Wake Me Up Before You Go Go"... yes, my secret shame is that I heart Wham. But there was other stuff... Beastie Boys, a fair bit of Jurassic Five, and Weezer. I wish I looked like Buddy Holly too, Rivers... ahhhh.
