I am unashamedly in love with this place. I can often be seen wearing my fashionable pink Sydney Uni hoodie on a cold day, or even a bloody hot one. I attempt to convince people to enrol - even my Mum, who has a full-time job and no desire to go back to uni. A lot of you are probably wondering which uni to go to - it's a tough choice, I know. So I'm going to make it a little easier, by letting you in on the best things about Sydney Uni.
1. It's at the foot of one of the world's greatest cities! Let's face it, guys, the winner truly is Sydney. We have the best beaches, great music venues, excellent markets (for all you shoppers out there!), the coolest pubs and bars, amazing galleries and museums....ah the list goes on. To know that, just a bus ride away from uni, you can find the Glebe Markets on a Saturday, breathtaking Bondi Beach, the yummiest Italian restaurants on Norton St, the very best Thai restaurants on King St in Newtown and God's Gift to Girls, Pitt St Mall, is one of the things I love about Sydney. Here you will be at the heart of all the wonderful things Sydney has to offer!
2. Its history - Sydney Uni has some of the most interesting stories....I love knowing that the building I have my English lectures in was once used for a sit-in, led by Germaine Greer. It's exciting in a really nerdy way to know that the Quad was once used as tennis courts. And that when Tony Abbott was here he was the editor of our student newspaper. Sydney Uni has a vibrant past - and if you're enrolled as a student here, you'll be part of our future. I love knowing that I am a part of a uni with such a rich history, but I'll also contribute to the future.
3. Diversity - while the Hacky Sac society certainly isn't my cup of tea, I love that other people can join if they want! At Sydney Uni we have around 200 clubs and societies, catering for all sorts of lifestyles, interests, political motivations, religions and hobbies. If you want to check these out, go to our Union website at www.usuonline.com/
4. The campus - my God, the campus. I am not a strong believer in love at first sight, but as soon as I saw the Quad, I was hooked. Yep, reel me in fellas, I'm in love. Of course, being in love with sandstone buildings has its drawbacks (such as when I walk into some of the newer classrooms and am dismayed to see there are no tables engraved with Rob Heart Elizabeth 1954) but everytime I walk through the Quad I'm reminded of how lucky I am to study in such a wondrous environment.
5. Activity - I'm a pretty restless person, so I am in my element at Sydney Uni. There is always something to do. From public lectures to lunchtime trivia, to Theatresports and appearances by comedians, Sydney Uni is a pretty swell place. There are heaps of gigs lined up throughout the year, huge parties at the start and end of semester, and each year, the Medicine, Law, Arts and Engineering Faculties put on revues. You won't be standing still at Sydney Uni, I guarantee it!
