Transferring is an option that lots of people are playing round with at this time of year, especially if you just missed out on the cut off and want to transfer some time down the track. So lets fast forward a year and explore how it all rocks and rolls.

Hey Charger, how are you? Lots of people will no doubt be telling you about how transferring works, and I’m sure that every person you speak to will have a different story about how it is done. ‘I heard you have to do an interpretive dance of the power of your degree to transfer’ says one, ‘I heard you have to juggle eggs whilst reciting the alphabet backwards’ says another. Well, if you do want to either of these two transfer methods, please let me know, I would love to come and watch, but the sad truth is that it is a bit simpler then that in most cases.

What you need to do is actually re-apply back through UAC in much the same method as what you are doing at the moment. What you will need to do before you do this though is check to see if there are any special requirements for transferring into a course (some courses have quite specific requirements, things like Physio, Vet and Law for instance, so check with the faculty before you do anything). Then what happens is the UAC takes into account your UAI and your Grade Point Average (GPA) in a 50/50 split. This is quite an important thing to take into account, and it will affect both those trying to transfer to courses with higher UAI’s, but also those students who are not enjoying there degrees and who want to escape them. If either mark is weak then it will hurt your chances of transferring, so in both circumstances, it is important to work hard and make sure that you have the best possible marks.

The other thing to take into account is that it is really quite difficult to transfer, as there will continue to be limited places and strong competition for those places, so never bank on a transfer happening. In saying that too, if you work really hard and do really well then you give yourself the best possible chance of transferring, so keep working at it!!

Well, that is it in a tiny nutshell. I know that I wasn’t sure of how to transfer and how many different stories I heard about it, so hopefully this has helped smooth it out.

So stay cool and ill catch you on the flip side,

Brendon
