I don't know about you guys, but lately I've been noticing a lot of repetition.
TV is awash with reality shows, which are all variations on a theme.
Every shopping centre has exactly the same stores. Suddenly it doesn't matter where you are in NSW, because you'll always be able to find a Sportsgirl or Portmans!!! (And don't get me started on those franchised coffee shops!)
I routinely change the station on my radio, only to hear the same song! (How can Kyle and Jackie O be playing Kelly Clarkson, as well as Triple M?????)
This is why I love uni - no two days are exactly alike. Sure, your classes are pretty regular, but there's always so much happening that it's hard to describe a typical day in the life of a uni student. This is one of the things I love most about uni - the freedom of studying in a bustling campus, where there is always something fantastic to do.
However, lots of people have been asking me how I spend my days. So...introducing...a kind of typical day in my life...
6:00am Alarm goes off. Snooze button.
6:10am As above
6:20am As above
6:30am My brother comes into my room and disconnects my alarm. Tells me to get up. Now.
7:00am Get ready for uni - shower, dress etc. Grab some toast as I run out the door and pray there is enough petrol in my car to get me to Camperdown!
7:45am Search for parking in Glebe - hint: if you're planning to drive to uni, get there early. There is no free on-campus parking, so it's either a parking station, or trying to find an all-day park in a surrounding suburb, like Glebe or Newtown.
8:00am Meet my best mate Cindy for a caffeine hit at Tra Baci, in Manning House (bottom floor, at the back.)
9:00am Library time! Generally my classes don't start until the late morning, so I use this time to get some reading done, do some research for assignments, watch a film for class....etc etc. Fisher Library is truly the greatest resource an Arts student could have!
11:00am-2:00pm I usually have classes during these times - both lectures and tutorials. If you're in first year they will be chock-full, but as you progress they get smaller. I prefer the smaller classes, because you get to know people better, and everyone gets to have a say in tutorials.
2:00pm Lunchtime! Depending on the day of the week, or the time of semester, I might catch up with some mates (if we're not busy with assignments!), or quickly grab something to eat and do some work. I obviously prefer the first option - lunch isn't meant for work!
3:00-5:00pm More classes. Afternoon classes are great - everyone is a bit more relaxed and we all understand the need for a coffee halfway through. For the past two semesters at uni I've had the same afternoon class, with the same people, for one of my History subjects. It's been tops, as we've all gotten to know each other really well. On our last day of semester 2, our lecturer took us to Manning for Christmas drinks! (Kind of strange, considering it was October. But still nice!)
5:00pm Head home to tutor some girls in Year 11 at a local high school. I do tutoring to earn some extra cash, and it also ties into my degree, as I teach them English. It's great to get a job that can help you in your studies, as well as earning you money!
8:00pm My friends have somehow roped me into playing netball - although I don't so much play as dodge the ball. Still, it's fun and a good way to unwind.
9:00pm Time for dinner and some homework. I'm a bit of a nightowl so I don't mind staying up to research or write. I generally go to bed around midnight, and sleep very, very well!
