Look I know that you know that I know you know how to talk to people, but we might as well put it down in Blog form. That and its Sunday and I cant think of other things to write.
Hey Tiger, what’s the Buzz? How has the Weekend been? Hunky Dory? I’m sure that it’s been fun, the weather has been fantastic so I hope that you have been out for a swim and maybe a few cheeky ones in the afternoon… Summer is so Tops isn’t it?!?!?! The 21st cycle resumed last night for me after a bit of a lay off the last couple of weeks, and the two last night were wonderful. It was quite a change up, Cocktail party in Milson’s Point at a beautiful apartment looking out over the bridge with Law and Vet students, to my schoolmates Viking party at Westleigh at his place. Both were fantastic, but very different vibes. Most of you will be in the 18th cycle, and it is very similar. I think what you have learned how to talk to lots of different people about lots of different things on this cycle, and this will serve you well for talking to people at Uni.
I’ve always found it quite easy to talk to anyone at Uni as you always have a set series of questions and conversation topics that work. They are:
-What’s your name (haha, that’s lame! But it’s true. I’m terrible with names when I first meet people too)
-What course do you do?
-Where are you from?
-What school did you go to? (I tend not to like this question very much, and that’s generally why I ask people where they’re from. I just don’t like talking about schools with people as there seems to be so much attached to which school you went to too often, so I tend to avoid it.)
-How bout that local sporting team?
These are really easy questions, and easy to start off with (that sound so shallow and rude, but hey, I’ve seen politicians in action and I nothing can be as bad as that!). I generally find that this is enough information to start to play the name game, to see whom you have in common. Lauren wrote about ‘Campus Celebrities’ or the Stars on Campus. I like to get to know them, and then you can just drop names and look cool. You don’t have to know them, as in many circumstances no one knows them. You can always try slander, or just drop the name and see where it takes you.
Yeah I know it sounds silly to simplify conversations with people to this level, and it is hard to start conversations with people that you don’t know. At Uni though you all have something in common so it’s easier to approach people with questions like those above, so that’s why you can ask lame questions above.
I have a few friends at Uni who are the bomb when it comes to talking to people. I like to think that they have a licence to mingle. One friend, who is a wonderful Fijian Fellow who loves to hug people, seems to get off the bus to uni with several friends who all have interesting track records. Another friend seems to take his shirt off to dance at regular intervals, and he seems to have an endless supply of people who want to come up and shoot the breeze with him (some people don’t recognise him with his shirt on though. There are lots of photos of him OS dancing round famous landmarks in his undies too). Another mate does Bill Cosby impressions in the middle of Eastern Avenue, which always seems to gather a lage crowd. Medicine Students are mad…
Well that’s the blog for another day. A tad lame, but what are you going to do? Well you could leave a comment, that would be way cool. Yeah do that, leave topics that you would like to know more about!!!
OOOkkkkaaayyy, bye

Hi Brendon.
Thanks for your blogs, they are always funny.
I was thinking that I don't know much about services for students and stuff. Like at school you have guidance counsellors and careers advisors but do you have that at uni? I was just wondering.
Anyway, it sounds like you are having a great summer. Thanks again
