I don't mean to alarm anyone, but there i sless than three weeks until the start of semester. The good news? It's less than two weeks to O-week!

O week is that wonderful time where the student body comes together to catch up, chill out and party. Whilst it has fairly misleading name (o week consists of three days) the brilliance of the festival is tremendous.

Perhaps the most well attended part of the program is the clubs and societies live on the front lawns. Representatives from each of the 250 plus clubs and societies on campus man booths and bare their wares to bright-eyed first years. A warning though, it’s easy to be a little too over enthusiastic. My first O week saw me joining 7 clubs, which is not necessarily a bad thing if you want to try things out and see what you really like.

Every year (this will be my fourth) you can just about feel the electricity on campus. Pretty much everyone you see is happy and excited to be there, experiencing new things, refreshed from an unprecedented holiday and looking forward to starting a new adventure. In twelve weeks or so with exams looming it’s another story, so enjoy it.

I guess what makes it so special is that O week is a time of possibility. Everyone is energised by the notion of a fresh slate, which promises new opportunities and success. That’s the thing with subjects that only last one semester. Once you finish that final exam they are well and truly over.

So start getting excited and if you have any questions, post a comment!
