Thursday 2 March, the second day of O-week. If you're a nostalgia crazed freak like me you'll be putting this date in your brand new Union-sponsored O-Week diaries because this is when the 90s DANCE PARTY IS ON AT MANNING!
Being the only decade so far that I've lived through completely (and so have you, dear reader! So have you!) I have to say I'm pretty down with the 90s. It was a pretty good time, if I remember rightly.
As far as the music goes, I reckon I spent the late 90s and early 00s (noughties? whatever...) hating and cringing at the thought of 90s music. But now, sufficient time has passed so I feel the love again. Here's my top ten songs of the 90s. It's a subjective list, and far too hard to do in only ten songs. Plus, I know there were far "better" songs, but these ones are the best at reminding me of the 90s (or, they were the first ones that came to me. Anyway.)
* Semi- Charmed Life -- Third Eye Blind
* Every Morning -- Sugar Ray
* The Sign -- Ace of Base (terrible song, but EVERYONE was singing it in about grade four)
* The Impression That I Get -- The Mighty Mighty Bosstones
* All the Small Things -- Blink 182
* Stop -- Spice Girls (come on, don't pretend you didn't know the dance moves)
* Come As You Are -- Nirvana (the first Nirvana song I ever heard. I remember it because I definitely didn't understand all the hype surrounding these guys)
* Monkey Wrench -- Foo Fighters
* Waterfalls -- TLC (I was in love with that kooky Lisa Left Eye)
* I'm Gonna Be / 500 Miles -- The Proclaimers (because I heard this song when I was about 7 but didn't know the name of it, so I spent several years singing it so I would remember it. As a result, I think it's etched on to my brain)
So there you go, an insight into 90s Cath. Come along to this dance party. I'll be the one up the front going crazy when they put on Michael Jackson's Black or White.......
Also, leave a comment, let me know what I've missed!

Could I just ask - would you recommend going to the 90s dance night even if you know no one? and do most people starting uni to 2006 go?
Thanks

Lauren: I know... I deliberated long and hard over the 'Ice, but decided against him. Plus, he stole his riff straight from Queen's "Under Pressure", which is a killer song.
Asako: You make a good point. But the boy band genre is so huge, I felt I couldn't do it justice... Maybe you could do me a Top Ten Boy Band Songs That Make You Vomit (or something)
;)
Michelle: Don't worry, lots of people won't know anyone! I think you should get into some of the O-Week events and just see who you meet. Remember, lots of people are in the mood for making buddies at the start of uni so just go with the flow, I reckon.
Give O-Week a go and make it your priority to meet people. You'll enjoy uni so much more once you're comfortable there, so make an effort early on ( I definitely wish I'd had the guts to talk to more people right at the start of uni). And if you love the 90s like I do, definitely come to the party :)
