This is going to be one of those kvetching (Yiddish for whining but sounds much cooler) blogs where I am going to write about how unfair life is (all things being relative – I really do appreciate the fact that I don’t live in poverty in Africa where I would either be foraging for food or have AIDS, or both.) It is about my uni lifestyle….which is kind of non existent due to the full time practical component of the physio course.
I’m going to be the 156th person who will preach to all you uni students about how wonderful being a student is. How about I start with the hours (or lack there of – you’ve got to be joking if 6 hours a week is considered to be a full time art student!), or the early hour drinks at the pub, the sleep ins (irrespective of the pub), the lack of routine and the cheap transport fares (well nothing is Sydney is really cheap, but remember it’s all relative!) And did I mention the copious hours of free time to meet up with friends, join clubs and societies, have meaningful conversations about the injustices which are occurring in Sierre Leone (I’m sure there are I just don’t know about them), have not so meaningful conversations about the existence and colour of navel fluff and stare into space.
So, my ability to enjoy any of those benefits has disappeared (except thank goodness I still get cheap transport fares.) But enough of kvetching, I will now list the perks of full time work.
1. Money
2. Money
3. Money
As those perks don’t apply to a student working full time to gain practical experience for my degree, I will dig deep and comment that I might be getting a smidgen of satisfaction from helping people all day, plus I may be learning just a tad of relevant stuff so I can be out in the work force next year. And then there’s the guarantee of a job next year……..In fact full time prac work isn’t as bad as it is made out to be. Well, except that I have become a bit of a bore on the social scene and I feel like an old woman who complains about her tired aching body at the end of a day.
Unfortunately you can’t be a student forever, so for the 156th time, enjoy your debates on world peace and the meandering in Newtown while you still can!

Comments
As an arts student, I promise to meander around Newtown everyday until I graduate, and have philosophical debates as though they were my last.
P.S. I might steal "kvetching", that's one fine word.
