The verdict is in: sweat is sexy. In fact it is incredibly sexy……
I have just completed my beginners salsa course in Paddington and I have never enjoyed touching sweaty men quite as much as when they are doing salsa. Our salsa course went out last night to boogie on down at the Equilibrium in the city to celebrate the fact that we could now salsa. Or rather, that we could move our feet in some semblance of co-ordinated pattern, never mind the swinging of the hip thing!
The best thing about being a lady (besides being allowed to cry in movies and blame PMS for bad moods) is that it is easy to find a man who can lead properly in salsa. Immediately the ladies will be upgraded in status from beginner to ‘can-follow-the-lead-and-therefore-do-lots-of-cool-spins-that-was-never-taught-in-class.’ The poor beginner men on the other hand struggle to impress at the moment due to their lack of originality. They are stuck performing the same old moves they learnt in class again and again and again……
There’s also something nice about the ambiance of the salsa scene. A guy can ask you to dance and it doesn’t have to mean ‘I want to take you home tonight’ (but there’s always a few who slip past every radar). The sweat thing is not just condoned but sexy. You don’t need to spend lots of money getting drunk. Meet new people (usually of the opposite gender). Burn some calories. Plus you feel like you are on a movie set of dirty dancing watching these couples compete for the title of ‘Sexier than Ricky Martin and Jennifer Lopez’.
The next morning I woke up with a buzz still excited after last night’s adventures (well, at least I think it was – or it could have just been the residual ringing of my ears from the loud music!) A definite adventure worth repeating.
Boys, if you want to impress the ladies forget the six pack and the (insert name of some fancy and fast car) – take up salsa.
.
Look out for salsa classes next semester on Wednesday nights – coming to a campus near you!

Oh are you going to do salsa next semester? I really want to get back into dance. I don't know about the sweat thing though... I think it definitely depends on the guy!
