To kick off the new semester, we all donned our quiffs and legwarmers, our tacky jewelry and meshy gloves, to attend the 80s party. This is my friend and I having a good old chat to closed doors of the new coffee shop outside manning:

As I’m sure I’ve mentioned before, Manning is always packed with a whole host of fun and cheap (or in tonight’s case, free) day and night events. Keep an eye out on the last page of the Bull magazine, as well as at www.manningbar.com.

It wasn’t a massive crowd like what you might expect at Snowball next Thursday, but it was a very fun and cosy, albeit badly dressed bunch of people. Every person I saw seemed to out-style the last, so I ended up getting a photo with nearly every last one of them. It was leggings, headbands, and fluro colours galore.

Classic movies like The Breakfast Club and Teenage Werewolf were playing silently on a big screen on stage while we danced away to all the typical 80s songs like Billy Jean, Original Sin, My Sharona and Message in a Bottle. I was devastated, almost to the point of tears, when I requested Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go and they said they had lost the WHAM CD, but in the end someone’s ipod saved the day and we were able to jitterbug away to, in my opinion, the best song ever.

Me and my friends almost won the lip synching comp, doing an excellent rendition of Blister in the Sun, but the Wedding Singer DVD went to some girls moving their mouths to Love Shack. The crowned Prom Queen and Jock had a very intimate slow dance together, and we all had a fantastic night revelling in the midst of good, good music, and bad, bad fashion.

Asako, the party sounds rad and I'm so bummed I missed it. I wish I had have donned my bubble skirt, leggings and day-glo/hypercolour bodysuit with my flashing Adidas (pronouned ah-dee-dahs) sneakers to dance the night away with a perfectly lip-synched 99 Luftballons (the German version, of course!)

ohmigod Asako it breaks my heart to know I wasn´t there for that! Manning + 80s, what more could you want? Thankfully your description made me feel as if I was almost there... sigh.

I am so jealous...it sounds right up my alley!

Sounds even better than listening to 101.7 juke box saturday night!

Why didn't you all come, then?!?!?! Clearly, Davina is the only one with a legitimate excuse (not being in the country / getting ready to leave it, and all).
