150 sweaty male cops

16 October, 2006

I think it is fair to say that we are a generation that likes to surf the net. I must confess, I am ever-so-slightly a computer nerd. I check my emails at least three times a day, and then all my other favourite sites. Firstly there’s the penultimate Google (don’t pretend like you’ve never Googled before a first date!) Then there’s emails, blogging sites, MyUni and the good ol’ facebook (a new social networking phenomenon that is sky-rocketing in popularity here, just like in America.)

But the Sydney Uni Casual Employment Service website is certainly one of my favourites that I check every couple of days. Here’s why……

I have two fantastic jobs which I am extremely loyal to. I have a satisfactory weekly income. I have a busy weekly schedule. There are exams coming up. Need I convince you more that any normal person would not endeavour to search an employment website?

Maybe I just have a bad case of FOMO (condition where you have a Fear Of Missing Out). Maybe I just like procrastinating. Or maybe I am looking for those small casual one-off jobs which offer a bit of cash in pocket. Well, last week I took up one of these opportunities.

Imagine 150 male policemen. No, not in uniform, but nonetheless 150 reasonably fit male policemen. These 150 policemen are kicking a football around the oval, getting slightly sweaty. Now imagine 4 young females walking onto the oval - the only females in sight. One of those females was me, and this was one of these casual one-off jobs.

Last week, there was an interstate police AFL competition. My job description was to strap and massage these men before and after the game. But considering most states brought their own trainers with them, effectively I was a mere water boy who massaged lots of thighs every now and then. It was actually quite an experience – I’ve never really spoken to a cop before, yet alone touched any! It’s funny to think that they are just normal blokes who like flirting with the young girls ;)

All in all, my wallet is a bit heavier, my clinical skills have improved, and we were asked back for next year. (Plus I have a teeny bit more uni work to catch up on.)

So moral of the story is always keep your eye out on the Casual Employment Service Website (http://www.usyd.edu.au/stuserv/employment/index.shtml) even if your life is complete at the moment...and cops are tops!!!
