So, you’re probably either feeling elated, ambivalent, or disappointed. Perhaps you received the UAI you were after, and you’ve got a good chance of getting into the course of your choice. Maybe you’re so close to last year’s cut offs that you’re not quite sure whether your UAI will be enough. Or maybe you now have to step back, reassess and change your preferences because your results were less than you’d hoped.

Whichever it is, be proud of your achievement: for many ex-year 12 students, the HSC is the biggest hoop they’ve ever had to jump through. Simon and Asako have already written about the many alternative ways to get where you want to go. It’s really good advice. Because it’s an unavoidable fact: sometimes we fail. Sometimes we don’t live up to our own expectations. As long as you’re always growing from your experiences, I don’t think you can really go wrong.

So please, if you’re disappointed: take a look at all your options. Don’t let one little failure (and the "failure" is often largely in your own mind anyway) stop you from getting where you want to go.

Here endeth Cath’s sermon. But seriously, I only say this because I have the benefit of hindsight: your life does not depend on the UAI. So go write down that mark, staple it to a frisbee and throw it over a rainbow. In a month or so nobody is going to care anymore. Then we can all go back to worrying about the serious questions: When is Lindsay Lohan going to start wearing underwear again? Won’t somebody please think of the children!

Comments

I wasn't sure whether I'd be allowed to comment or not, considering nobody else seems to have commented, but whatever.

Just thought I ought to say thank you - for some very encouraging posts. I wish I'd come here earlier, instead of going to the boredofstudies forums (where people are still posting up their 90+ UAIs), lol.

Keep up the good work, =)

i failed at life.
but i enjoyed myself.
its more difficult than you'd
imagine.

positive.

hey terra
i think ive mentioned this a couple of times but WE LIVE FOR COMMENTS. does that make us sound sad? perhaps a little but im willing to risk it. of course youre allowed

and freqent more ofen! there are some top tips here. good luck with everything

Spot on Cath. UAI shmoo-A-I.

As for the competition between UAI scores, this is a definite bad idea. That was how I discovered I was a second-place getter at school! Just be merry in your own achievement and avoid all those "I got 9*.** UAI" people. My question is, why aren't they out enjoying the sunshine! HSC is over! Woohoo!

Glad you guys have found this stuff useful. If there's ever something you'd like us to address in our blogging, please do suggest it in the comments. We aim to please :)

Dear Cath,
you are awesome

I just wanted to say that I am one of those people who just missed out, and that was pretty hard to take. It good to know that even though I didn't get into the course I wanted, that it doesn't mean that I failed everyone around me the way I kinda felt I had. thanks

Hi guys!
So when I was in year 12 I missed out on getting in to my course, so I had a cry and then enrolled in my 2nd pref, and then, while doing that course before I transferred, I met my boyfriend who I have now been with for over 3 years.

So I guess it was fate or whatever, but going back, i wouldnt change a thing, because in the end, missing out was the best thing for me! Of course, at the time you would never have convinced me of this...

Chins up darls! missing out the first time is only a minor setback!

completely agree with terra. i spent literally 3/4 of my senior years worrying about my hsc that i ended up dragging me down went it shouldnt have really.
i want a time machine.
but then there is the lesson that experience is really important.
