Last day for preference choosing is looming ever closer!!!!!!! QUICK!! PANIC!!

No, don’t.

I think that was the worst “draw in” for a blog I’ve ever ever written, so if you’re still with me, congratulations.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. Are there just so many degrees you can’t choose? Don’t worry. We can get through this.

If you’re sure you want to go to uni but still have no idea what you want to be when you “grow up”, think about the subjects you most enjoyed at high school for an indication of what to do at uni.

There is no pressure to choose a career path at this very moment, and you don’t need to force yourself into a vocational degree (eg B. Pharmacy). A generalist degree like Arts or Science might be your calling. If your interests are all over the place there is always the option of a combined degree, which let’s you complete two degrees. If you begin and you don’t enjoy one, you can always drop down to one degree.

And, finally there is always the option of changing once you get started, but that’s a bridge you can cross if and when you come to it.

For now, if you’re still totally unsure of what to choose, give the helpline a call. There are a LOT of degrees beyond the B. Arts and B. Science that you may never have heard of and could be right up your alley!

Hey hey Asako, how are ya? Choosing a degree.. wow that's going to be me this time next year! What a scary thought!

Ok question time!!!

I desperately need to know EVERYTHING ABOUT USYD SCHOLARSHIPS. I have to win a scholarship or I won't be able to come to Usyd, mainly for financial reasons (I'm the girl from Adelaide).

Main questions: How many University of Sydney scholarships (the $5000 ones) are given out annually? What kind of activities should I get involved in now to increase my chances of getting one? Will my chances increase the higher my TER/UAI is (I know it has to be at least 95)? And do any of you lovely bloggers have scholarships?

Also, is the UAI the equivalent of South Australia's TER (Tertiary Entrance Ranking)??

I hope you can help me with this! And I really appreciate this whole website, thank you again!

Hey Sarah, I don't know what kind of degree you want to do, but if you do something like me (Liberal Studies) where you do subjects from more than one faculty, nominate the science faculty over arts! They offer a lot more annually. Although the higher ur UAI/TER, the better, some of the scholarships are about demonstrating need - seeing as you're coming interstate that shouldn't be a problem. Start applying and looking for types of scholarships as soon as you can! Good luck!

self assessment is always good.
p.s what's a vocational degree?

hey christine,
there are two types of degrees you can choose from: generalist, like a b.arts or b.science, then there are vocational degrees which train you to work in a special field, like the b.pharmacy, b.psychology
sorry im not that great at explaining it all but i hope that helps! good luck
