What have I been doing with all my free time after exams? Writing blogs, lazing around, eating, and watching movies! Oh yes and checking online twice a day every day for exam results...

And I’ve discovered the three fundamental types of movies. There may be more, and if so, feel free to add and correct me...

1. The “I know it’s going to be a corny/ lame/ predictable but I still want to see it” movie.

Case in point: Devil Wears Prada.

In this instance, it was more “I know it’s going to be corny / lame / predictable but there seems to be an abundance of great clothes to watch in it as well as Simon Baker which doesn’t make it harder to go and see”.

Yeah yeah, it was corny, whatever, but there were some funny lines (I’m quite easily impressed) and as I said, good clothes. I still don’t believe that they could have gotten the Harry Potter 7 script though, but whatever.

Also, I actually watched this on the last day of semester just before stuvac and exams so it had the whole ‘calm before the storm’ / ‘too early to be studying’ / ‘if I just relax for this one afternoon then I can start fresh studying tomorrow’ vibe about it which was enjoyable.

2. The “Wow that wasn’t as good as everyone cracked it up to be” movie.

Case in point: Little Miss Sunshine.

Yeah, ok, it was pretty funny. And yes, at times I was a little bit crying (from laughter). But way too many people had hyped it up like crazy, going “it’s sooooooooooooooooooo good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OOOOOOOhhhh my God go and see it!! And the ending, woah!!! Like, what are you doing right now?? Go and see it!!!” type thing.

And I know movies and books get ruined when people say this kind of stuff so I’m trying to block my ears, saying “lalalalallallalalalalal stop telling me how good it is or you’ll ruin it!!!”

Then they say “oh but it’s so good it can’t be ruined”.

Which just makes the ruin-age way, way worse.

3. The “‘Why is my friend dragging me into this movie? I don’t even know what it’s about?’ but then it turns out to be awesome” movie.

Case in point: The Prestige

I don’t want to pull a no. 2 on you (i.e. ruining it before you see it, not a poo you silly people... though I’m sure that’s what Cath thought immediately... hahahh) but this movie is great. Are you bored right now reading this blog? Go and watch The Prestige.
