Coffee today, is what The Movies were in the 90s: the perfect event for socialising with friends, inviting someone for a casual date or going alone for some "Me time". University life revolves around coffee and the cafe scene.

I have a favourite cafe on my way to uni that is right around the corner from my house. I have developed a slightly unhealthy obsession of wanting to go there at a particular time, when a particularly beautiful barista is working there. I've had equally good coffee from lots of other places, but somehow his eyes - when he hands you the coffee - have me captivated. Not that I'm advocating stalking...

Beautiful baristas. It's a tough world, but I suppose you better get used to them. My friends and I spend quite a bit of time in cafes on campus - and let me tell you - there have been some very good looking baristas over the four years I've been here.

So how do you know if a barista likes you? The three signs are:
1. Coffee art. A coffee that has been sprinkled and foam-sculpted in a way that makes it so difficult to drink the coffee (because you don't want to ruin the design) is a good sign.
2. Extra-nice service, particularly where they remember your favourite order.
3. A smile as you leave the cafe that says "I know you'll be back tomorrow, same time."

These, my friends, are the three signs. If you hit the trifecta, I would advise having the guts to strike up a conversation with your target. Or do what the non-courageous like me do, get your friend to leave your name and number on a napkin.

Ok, ok. I'll admit it. I have a little crush.

You should just give him a link to this blog...

After a rocky start to our relationship (he yelled out my order when I was standing less than half a metre away) my BC (Barista Crush) and I are totally in lust (from my side of the espresso machine, anyway). He remembers that I have soy milk (in fact, as soon as I walk in, he pulls it from the fridge), he knows I like an extra shot and he is acutely aware that I will shoot him if he attempts to offer sugar or (ugh!) a flavoured shot.

Yep, my BC is here to stay.

can anyone help ? because nursing is becoming so popular in somehow , i didnt get in to the combain course with arts in the main round, the only nursing course they offered me at this stage is in uws, the reason im choosing nursing& arts as my first preference is because i really like that kind of job and also can choosing my favo language at the same time, however i recieved an other offer for science & arts in usyd, i really dont know what to do, cause im not sure if that can easily find a job like studying nursing in usyd, ( sorri for mention that, but that's the reality, we all have to face it one day dont we?), i would like to hear ur commments, and suggestion~ ^o^ thanks~!

Hi Jelovea,

Sounds like you're a tad confused - and rightly so. This is a really huge decision and it's only natural that you're worried about it.

However, the good thing is that you have a few options. It's great that you were accepted into Nursing at another uni. If you really want to be a nurse, maybe that's the course for you. I understand, though, if you'd like to expand your studies to include a language too. In that case, maybe Arts and Sciences would be useful - you could study your chosen language and your Science study would complement any further education you might take on later to become a nurse. For instance, you could complete a Masters of Nursing after your first degree, and then become a nurse.

As for finding a job after uni, I think you can rest assured that nurses will always be in demand, and that you shouldn't have too much trouble paying your rent!

Good luck!

Hahahahaha, Ghassan your blogs crack me up! Keep them coming? Please? :D
