Sorry guys, this isn’t a blog about how I met a boy, cute as can be, over the summer. The title is just a response to a challenge I have received to making all my blog titles from songs (see if you can catch me out this year)...

This blog is about you!

December is probably a blur of late nights and equally late mornings and empty Thai food containers and scratched knees... or if you’re a Simon type, you might have spent it fretting and biting your nails.

So now you’ve put in your preferences. They’re all locked up and you can’t touch them. And now you have to play the waiting game. You probably feel all holiday-ed out but believe me, there’s still a lot you can do!

Here’s my to-do list for those in-between-going-out days when you just feel sooooooooooo bored your eyeballs are going to fall out:

- Clean your room. And if it’s clean to being with, or this isn’t already a sizable, week-long task, then do the furniture-rearrangement thing. It feels so fresh just to move a few things around, and you may get less recurring night-before-English-Paper-I-tossing-and-turning nightmares from the memories of where you bed was. Bonus!

- Rediscover the extinct activity of Reading For Pleasure! If you have nothing to read, check out some of my favourites: The Basic 8 by Daniel Handler, 48 Shades of Brown by Nick Earls (the movie doesn’t do the book justice. Do they ever?). If you want a series, go for The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams (and all subsequent novels thereof) - that will keep you going for a while! The Janet Evanovich series (One for the Money, etc are a good holiday read), or go back and read the entire Harry Potter series and jot down all the little clues you can find...

I’m attempting to rediscover this lost art at the moment but it’s difficult because I’m not a really fast reader and I don’t devote a lot of time to it (and I’m reading a boring book); it took me a couple of months to get through Anthony Kiedis’ autobiography last year... So suggest any books you think I’ll like, I’d really appreciate it!

- Go out with your friends and do something silly, or just laze around. Go for a picnic at Bicentennial park and frolic in the fountains (believe me, a LOT of fun on a scorching summer’s day). Go to the video shop and borrow a whole bunch of lame movies and have a lame movie marathon night. Go do Karaoke! Go practice that instrument you haven’t touched in months, or go busking. Go to the MCA (Museum of Contemporary Art, it’s in the Rocks) - entry is free and there are usually some really interesting exhibitons. The possibilities are endless!

- Go bargain hunting in op shops and markets. It’s always so satisfying to find a cheap gem. Check out Rozelle, Balmain and Surry Hills markets for great second hand stuff, Paddington for something crafty or the Rocks for great gifts. You could even stock up for Christmas ... Ok maybe it’s a bit early for that, but it’s never too early to start searching for birthday presents, especially for that person who just has everything!

- Look for a job. Unfortunately this isn’t a great time to look for a job because most retail places are laying people off after the Christmas period, but you might be lucky to find something that you can keep through uni. If you already have a job, grab as many shifts as possible to make some extra money before uni starts.

- When you’ve enrolled, get your assigned Unikey (eg jdoe1234; its the first letter of your firstname and the first three letters of your last name plus 4 random numbers, and this is your uni email address, and your ticket into student services), and check out the myuni website and get a feel for what’s going on. You’ll need to check your email regularly because you’ll get notices there from lecturers or the library telling you you’ve got stuff overdue. And while you’re at myuni, give the casual employment database a whirl! You could find your dream (casual) job there.

- If you get invited to any pre-uni orientation things at uni (eg science transition workshop or arty starty) make sure you go! They can be a lot of fun and you could meet your new best friend. If nothing else they are a good chance to get a feel for the campus before the pressure of real uni, and you will at least have a few people to say hi to in lectures when you do start!

Anyway, uni may seem a long way away right now but your holidays will go by like a flash so enjoy them while you can... And see you at O-Week!

Asako I couldn't be prouder, will be lots of fun, but... I have already caught you out though, the song was called Summer Nights... hehehehe

yeah i knew i wouldn't be able to do the original challenge of song titles, so its just stuff FROM songs, okay?!

can anyone help ? because nursing is becoming so popular in somehow , i didnt get in to the combain course with arts in the main round, the only nursing course they offered me at this stage is in uws, the reason im choosing nursing& arts as my first preference is because i really like that kind of job and also can choosing my favo language at the same time, however i recieved an other offer for science & arts in usyd, i really dont know what to do, cause im not sure if that can easily find a job like studying nursing in usyd, ( sorri for mention that, but that's the reality, we all have to face it one day dont we?), i would like to hear ur commments, and suggestion~ ^o^ thanks~!

I loved the book 48 Shades of Brown - I remember thinking that uni was going to be so cool, because I imagined myself living in a share house with my cool and trendy mate and my slightly goofy (but basically sweet) cousin. Both of whom did not exist.
