« “Social life” is in a relationship with “Study and assignments”: it’s complicated ... | Main | A Typical Day in Engoland, Part Two »

In my favourite episode of Sex and the City Carrie Bradshaw decides that dating MANhattan can be just as enjoyable and romantic as dating an actual man. She spends the day by visiting the Guggenheim, or attempting to at least, and then seeing a movie at the Paris cinema. I have developed a serious crush on New York City of late and it seemed appropriate that on the opening weekend of the Sex and the City Movie I follow in my idol's footsteps. Let me give you the lowdown on my perfect Sunday in the city...

9:05 am - Order a pumpernickel bagel with cream cheese to go at the west side diner on 96th and Broadway.

9:15 am - Arrive in Central Park where I find a park bench, eat my bagel and watch a stream of locals running, walking with strollers, and playing catch with their dogs in the Park.

10:00 am - I visit the Guggenheim after strolling through the Park to the Upper East Side. I am a little dissapointed because renovations mean only 3 of the art gallery's levels are open. My opinion changes, however, when I remember that in Carrie's date with the city she goes to the Guggenheim on a day when it is closed. Talk about a perfect case of art imitating life (in more ways than one really)! I don't really have that much pateince for modern art unfortunately so I don't stay long...

11:00 am - Try and get a taxi down 5th avenue to Bergdorf Goodmans, but the street is closed off for an "I Love Israel" Parade. Thousands of Jews filled 5th avenue to celebrate Israel's 60th birthday. Perhaps I will meet my Harry Goldenblatt in the crowd? There were some nice boys advertising jewishflirting.com in the crowd, but I'm not sure if having a great great grandfather who was Jewish is enough to get me in.

12:30 pm - After wandering the city and doing some imaginary shoping at Tiffany's and Prada and Bottega Veneta I catch a subway to the Flatiron district where I finally get to see the Movie of the decade - and Yes - it was fabulous, but i won't give anything away.

2:30 pm - The popcorn from the movie didn't quite satisfy so I get a delicious slice of cheese pizza for lunch.

2:45 pm - Shopping on 5th avenue. Banana Republic, Anthropologie, Free People and Zara....need I say more.

5:40 pm - A much needed coffee break at the Starbucks in Macy's and then some more shopping. Carrie would be proud!

9:30 pm - My day in New York has exhausted me...after a good, old-fashioned, all-american cheeeburger at a diner in Times Square I head back to my hotel for some much needed rest.

Yes, it was a fabulous day in New York City and as Carrie says in the movie..."go on, feel what I want you to feel, jealous!"
