Okay, so I might have lied about the “musical” bit, but LIVE! – Sydney University’s Open Day is definitely something for you. As it is coming up on Saturday, I thought I might give it a bit of blogspace… After all, it is a great way to check out Sydney Uni and what it’s all about before you have to put your preferences into UAC.
Those of you who frequent the world of Paramatta Road, City Road and the Sydney Uni Live! Website, I’d just like to point out that the girl in the picture is me. Yes, I am holding a giant megaphone. Yes, it is real. Indeed, I would like to clarify for those of you playing at home that I am indeed surrounded by swirls of knowledge (golden swirls of knowledge, might I add) on a daily basis. It is a part of the magical experience of attending Hogwarts Sydney University. Information, accio!
Why should I come to Sydney Uni Live!?
Live! Is the University of Sydney “courses and careers day”, which means that people – lecturers and students – from every faculty will be there – ready for you to talk to them. If you have any questions about degrees at Sydney Uni, the subjects (“units of study”) you can study, what sort of things you are expected to know or have to know, or just want to know what studying History and Philosophy of Science in your Science degree will mean – this is a great day for you to come to Sydney Uni to get answers from the horses mouth.
Where is Sydney Uni Live!?
Live! Is at the University of Sydney main campus, in Camperdown.
How do I get there?
Easiest way is by public transport. If you catch a train to Central, you can catch a FREE BUS (one day only) that will take you to Main Campus. There will be a white tent at Railway Square filled with students wearing “No Limits” t-shirts who can tell you which bus to catch.
You can also walk from Central up Broadway and Paramatta Road if you want to get a little bit of cardio happening.
When is it on?
Saturday 30 August, 9.30am-4pm
But what is the point? I know I want to do Law/Medicine/Vet/Speech Pathology/Philosophy!
The point is that this is a great day for you to check out what else is out there. If you have already decided that you want to be a Veterinarian, then that is fantastic – use Live! as an opportunity for you to ask people from the Vet faculty questions about what you’ll study, and also have a look around for other things you might be interested in studying. It’s a big world out there, and you’d be surprised at the plethora of things on offer!
Anything else I should know?
There are plenty of things going on throughout the day, and if you visit the Live! Website, you can make your own program for the day. Mini-lectures about specific degrees, which sausage sizzle to hit up, talks about going on Exchange. THE CHOICE IS YOURS.
