I pretty much knew nothing about Denmark when I decided to come here. After sending off my exchange application, I began to discover that a lot of things are Danish: the band Aqua, Tupperware, Georg Jensen jewellery, Bang & Olufsen technologies. And, as every Dane likes to remind me, the Sydney Opera House!! But, what is the invention the Danes are most proud of?? LEGO!
And yes, they have a whole theme park devoted to these small plastic bricks! It’s pretty amazing actually! “Legoland” is enormous, and everything is pretty much built of lego! There are sections where famous world monuments are built with lego: there’s a Mount Rushmore, the Taj Mahal, Thai temples, the Statue of Liberty, the White House, the most famous street in Copenhagen, and a reconstruction of the Airport closest to Legoland, complete with moving planes!
So as you might have guessed, absolutely everything is lego themed. If you’re on a water ride, in the middle of the ride is a giant lego pirate ship. If you’re waiting in line for a ride, there are lego bricks to play with. We all totally reverted back to being five year olds, and were so in our element!!!
It’s great fun! I don’t think you can say you’ve seen Denmark until you’ve been to Legoland!
