Reasons Why I Love O-Week

15 February, 2009

Hey everyone. So, summertime is kind of drawing to a close, sigh - what is UP with the rain by the way? seriously, I was walking down King Street in Newtown on Friday night and found myself in the middle of what felt like a flash flood. Actually, it probably was a flash flood. Anyway, summer is almost over and uni is about to start. YAY! <-- this is a genuine "yay", because uni is one of my favourite things in the world after the Back to the Future trilogy and stickers from Hot Dollar.

One of the great things about the new year is that Orientation Week - O-Week - happens before lectures and tutes start. This year O-Week is from Wednesday 25 February to Friday 27 February. It's fun and a great opportunity to not only join as many clubs/sports/societies as you please, but also a good chance to suss out where your classes are and also where the toilets on campus are (believe me this a good thing to look into, I spent about a month out of first year thinking the only toilets on campus were in Fisher Library... AWKWARD)

  • this year, O-Week will include DODGEM CARS and the SIZZLER. that is, rides that are so awesome you might make yourself a little sick from going on them a few too many times (I know I'll be the first one throwing up with glee)
  • FREE FAIRY FLOSS
  • over 200 clubs and societies to join, plus heaps of sports clubs as well
  • it's brought to you by the University of Sydney Union (achingly awesome, you have to join up if you want to get the most out of your time out of uni... seriously!)
  • fun times with friends and friendly people (who will become friends anyway)
  • cool events during the day and at night - this year you can play poker, speed date, watch the Fratellis & the Music & Ben Lee, paint your old school shoes, play trivia, roller-disco and MORE

Find out more about O-Week HERE - O-Week is running from Wednesday 25 February - Friday 27 February.

I expect you all to come to O-Week - it's great fun, and you get a poncho if it rains. If you see me around, come say hi! I will be roaming around everyday helping out at a couple of stalls, and also dropping it like it's hot at a session on the Main Stage on Thursday at 11am. If you cannot find me at either, look for me at the Sizzler. It's going to be great!

How I wished I'd taken the time to be a part of O week in my Uni days, but as a 'mature' aged student at all of 23 I decided to give it a miss... a big mistake. 'Orientation' would certainly have made the transition into Uni life that much easier. I would now recommend it to everyone entering Uni. Jamie

hahaha! i love sebastian! but i was very sad to miss o-week this year :'-(
