My Mum Rocks

22 July, 2009

On the weekend, my mum, my pregnant sister and I did the beautiful walk from the Spit bridge to Manly in Sydney.
It was a perfect sunny yet breezy Sydney weather and the views were magnificent.
At one point, my mother said “hey girls! Look at these rocks! They look absolutely magnificent”

My sister and I did not care to look at the rocks. They looked pretty boring to us.
My mum persisted “Wow, they are just excellent. Quick girls! Take a picture!”
My sister and I wondered why we needed to be quick. What were the rocks going to do?
Later on the walk, we walked past a broken rock face. I saw all the beautiful textures and patterns of the rock from millions of years of sedimentation. I yelled out “Hey mum! This rock is really pretty!”

My mum replied “No. that’s ugly.
She burst my happy bubble.
My sister laughed.
Then we saw this view.

Just breathtaking! A crystal clear secluded beach in the biggest city in Australia!
Minutes later we were attacked my magpies who wanted to eat our dried bananas.
After the walk, I thought to myself, Why are there no rocks in “The Rocks”?
