Choosing units of study is hard!! Being in my final semester of uni, I’ve already completed my two majors, but to fill up the 192 credit points which make up my degree, I have to do one more subject this semester. For a year I’ve been umming and ahhing about what I’d do. I’m actually super glad that we have time to test put a few subjects before the census date – otherwise I would’ve been in trouble! It took me to week three to finally find one!

So, I’ve got my core media subjects, I’ve got my final Archaeology and Film Studies subjects, so what do I do now?! I could essentially pick any subject I wanted from the whole uni, so why was it so hard finding one?

I decided I’d bite the bullet and try something new by signing up for a science subject. My first two lectures taught me that there was a lot of assumed knowledge, that me, having dropped science in year 10 had no chance! I was frantically scribbling everything down while others were just sitting back and relaxing because they’d all already studied it for at least four years! I found myself chickening out of that one.

So the next option? Maybe a language? But, all the true introductory language courses were in first semester, and after my science subject trial, calling on my year 11 French didn’t seem like such a good idea.

So third option? I took performance studies for a semester in second year so thought I’d pick that up again. Bah bam..couldn’t do that because I hadn’t done the pre-requisites.
Hmm, what now? I looked up marketing, medieval studies, history, art history, Arabic, Latin, French, music... Clashes, pre-reqs, assumed knowledge, more clashes, exams... I was starting to panic!

So, I re-checked the film studies website and came across another subject! ‘Goodie’ I cried!!! I went along to the lecture and it seemed similar to another subject I’d done already (I sneakily giggled thinking the semester could be a breeze!). So I shuttled myself off to the Arts office to pre-enrol, and NO!!! I couldn’t do it?! WHY?!!! Because I had in fact already done the subject in second year! They’d changed the name on me!!!!

Oh ohh, so really, now it was close to week 3 and I was really starting to get worried. I opened up a subject list for all semester 2 subjects, hoping something would jump out at me! And, finally it did!!! I found a Gender and Cultural Studies subject, which fitted perfectly into media, and somehow managed to give me a day off in my timetable. I was a happy chicken!! So glad we have a few weeks to sort this out! Phew!
