All the kids have come out to play. Some of the authors have gone home. The staff, volunteers and interns are looking tired and in need of rest. There’s a sense of closure as the 2017 Sydney Writers Festival is coming to an end.

It’s been a wonderful experience be given the opportunity to write for a Writers Festival. Write about writers. Write about events. Write about the daily happenings on the piers.

I’m currently sitting outside Pier 1 Hotel. Golden green Sydney ferries pass us by as the people drink their sav blancs and martinis dry. George Saunders, Susan Faludi and Yassmin Abdel-Magied have all past me by whilst writing this last piece. And probably more popular names I didn’t know the faces for.

What’s most unique about day four, besides the happy tired faces drinking the last of the liqour, is perhaps that it’s a really child friendly day.

“An adult must be accompanied by a child” read the sign before you walked into the free events at the Dance Halls. Walking down the hallway, you could hear an echo of children's laughter and delight.
