About Gemma (arts (media and communications), 3rd year)
What is life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare... - W.H. Davies
The ‘tell all’ name card my mum bought home from the newsagents informs me I’m a stone. A sparkly one. But a rock none the less. I’m all for earthly appreciation but it’s tough when you’re up against more lofty ‘listener of god’ and ‘gift of god’ siblings!
The ensuing nutshell description hits a few nails on the head - ‘she sometimes reacts badly to disappointments’ but loses the plot with a ‘she is not easily side-tracked or led astray.’
I live much of my life ‘off course.’ I float. I watch. I stare… at people. In between this voyeuristic past time of mine I pass in and out of Media and Communications, Anthropology, History and the occasional Art History classes.
This time last year, sigh, I was traipsing around Eastern Europe before a semester long exchange extravaganza to Scotland. ‘Aye, I had a wee bit too much fun’ and am currently living vicariously through friends who after finishing their degrees, kicked up their heels and made tracks for the big wide world.
But hey, I’d say I’m in a pretty good place. My time to disappear again (with a lovely little piece of paper under my belt) is well within reach. In the mean time, I'm off to Cambodia in Jan to complete an internship with the Phnom Penh Post newspaper. Every day is a gift with the freedom to learn, grow and watch the world go by.
