About Lauren (old hand)
With the haplessness of Bridget Jones and hopes of becoming Sydney's Carrie Bradshaw, Sydney Uni is proud to present...Lauren!
Aside from her main activity of daydreaming about meeting a Paul Newman look-alike in the Main Quad, Lauren is a fourth year Arts student at the university. This year she is writing her Honours thesis on African-American history.
She is constantly amazed at how few people compare her to Megan Gale (zero, and counting) and is more than a little worried that one 'friend' referred to her as a 'young Liza Minnelli.'
Lauren is the type of girl to be found in cafes at uni, in an effort to appear cooler than she actually is. For, she is a self-confessed nerd who loves reading Jane Austen novels and old movie stars' biographies. (By old, she does not mean Molly Ringwald...more like Rita Hayworth.) She secretly harbours a desire to dress like Marcia Brady and Laurie Partridge, though most often she styles herself (not incidentally) after the Olsen twins: big sunglasses, big bag, big coffee.
While she hasn't yet been asked to sing the national anthem at the AFL Grand Final, it seems only a matter of time, for her Australian Idol wildcard-like warblings catch EVERYONE'S attention. Lauren says the chief reason she purchased her car was so she could sing Belinda Carlisle songs without anyone hearing her.
Lauren has not yet decided what she plans to do when she leaves uni, though the term 'trophy wife' is thrown about frequently. Whatever Lauren does, though, is done without grace, sophistication or poise, so this may not be a wise decision.
