It doesn’t really live up to what it’s called (three days is hardly a ‘week’) but it’s the season once again when the uni flings open its doors to everyone, new and old. O-Week. The only three days when you’ll see Young Labour and the Liberals awkwardly co-existing within throwing distance of each other; the only time you’ll see farmyard animals (thanks to Oxfam) on the front lawns; but not the only time you’ll see college kids wearing academic robes.
Its late afternoon and I am delighted to find the front laws buzzing with the kind of activity that befits any normal O-Week. Handing out flyers for the international exchange fair (to be held this week on Thursday the 29th March) I was in competition with the army of faithfuls that represent the EU (the Evangelical Union - not to be confused with the formidable European bloc), and the eager and helpful bright green SPOCS. We vied for the attention of excited first years, as they stumbled around, arms laden with freebies, in a bit of a daze having just joined half a dozen societies.
I had an awesome day at O-Week yesterday. Here is a photo diary tracing my footsteps...

Okay, bad title. And okay, it’s not from a song.
But I just saw the O-week timetable and I am SOOOO pumped.
Here are my personal picks:
You've made it. You've got your offer. You've enrolled. Now you're ready to start uni. There is a simple list of to do's to get ready for uni.
Oh, and by the way, welcome to the University of Sydney!
After a few more days of college life under my belt i'm starting to get things sorted. My room is still absolutely trashed and my computer is dead but life is falling into place.
It took me a while but i've finally made it. I've already had two nights at college...some wild wild times.
It's not in the tradition of freshers to divulge the pleasures and pains of their much cherished O-Week, but for the benefit of the uninitiated, tradition can and will be broken…
What a day! It’s been fun, it’s been scary, it’s been simply confusing at times, yes, that’s right – it’s the first day of O week. I don’t really know what to say – I think I’m stunned like a mullet (the fish that is, not the hairdo). I’ll try and give you a comprehensive rundown of the day (or, given the state I’m in, perhaps the best you can hope for is a comprehensible run down!) but if I fail, please don’t lynch me.
Yes, O week is a lot of fun, but a lot of effort goes into those 3 days.
That’s right girls and boys, it’s less than 24 hours until I become a genuine, bona fide, legitimate UNI STUDENT! It all begins on Monday. First of all, we have to enjoy (or endure, depending on your perspective) the incredible and amazing experience that is “Arty Starty”.
Thursday 2 March, the second day of O-week. If you're a nostalgia crazed freak like me you'll be putting this date in your brand new Union-sponsored O-Week diaries because this is when the 90s DANCE PARTY IS ON AT MANNING!
