Syracuse University has started emailing all students with a weekly health bulletin. The bulletin offers tips on health and hygiene.

Designed around the busy schedules of students, orangehealth-e brings accurate and relevant information straight to the dorm rooms and apartments of each individual, said Matthew W. Kiechle, Health Education and Wellness coordinator. The e-mails include links to Internet health sites.

What ever way they want to dress this up it, from the information in the article, it is unsolicited bulk email, ie spam.

I wouldn't be particularly happy about getting (yet more) spam each week with information someone else deemed appropriate for my health.

The article (I cant get back in to it to double check) doesn't suggest it is opt in, and makes no mention of an opt out feature.

Rather than novel, I think it is an inappropriate use of student email accounts.

(I'll try getting out of bed on the other side tomorrow :-)
