« important new publication in Bali studies | Main | Some publicity for Indonesian Studies »

One of the projects I've been involved with over the last 15 years is the research and documentation of gambuh, the dance-drama form in which Panji narratives (and other stories) are depicted in Bali. A nice write-up with photos can be found at http://blog.baliwww.com/dance-drama-music/708/#more-708

Balinese people are the true guardians of our nation's heritage. Without them, I wonder if we would even know about the past. I hope that they will continue to preserve the heritages in the future.

And I salute you for your hard work, Mr. Vickers. It shames me how a foreigner like you take more interest about or culture more than most of our people. I hope I could also play my role, in my own way...

Adrian, A few years ago I was working on a Gambuh project for my MFA studies at UHawaii. You sent me an unpublished script of a Gambuh play you had done...I am now in Vancouver and, among other things, am teaching Asian Theatre and using a small section of your text to introduce Gambuh to my students. Thank-you! Is it published yet? I would like to purchase the publication if it is...and an other you may have out on Balinese Theatre.
